Starter items are special items that can be found in your new Spaceship when you first create it. They can be identified by a blue glow around the item with "(Starter)" after it's name. Starter items cannot be ejected out of the ship using a Cargo Ejector, and take much longer (30 seconds) to be shredded using an Item Shredder.

- Starter items may be intended so that you cannot exploit new teams for materials and eject them from new ships to existing ships.
- They may also be intended for protection of your items from griefers when you start a new team, as they cannot be wrenched by Guests and cannot be ejected.
- With the 12 February 2022 update, ship owners are now able to reclaim starter items from the ship settings menu. Reclaiming an item essentially deletes the corresponding item from the ship and returns it into your inventory.
- This can help recover any shredded starter items, or retrieve them from a hard-to-reach location in your ship.
- Starter Wrenches and Starter Item Shredders operate more slowly than their normal fabricated counterparts. They also disappear when dropped. This implies that these starter tools are only for temporary use, and the player should get their own tools.
